Presenting ALICIA ESPINEL

Alicia Espinel joined our Club in the spring of 2009. She heard about us one day when Joe Garr, a neighbor, noticed her and her Corvette. He suggested she might enjoy coming to one of our meetings or activities, and she did and is now a member. Alicia owns a 1996 C4 racing green convertible with a beige top. This car is very special as it was given to her by her brother-in-law. The only thing he asked of her was that she take the car and have fun with it. This she has done and continues to do. One of her favorite activities is to check out new places up and down the California coast from San Francisco south to San Diego.
Alicia has a pet, a little Westie dog, called Aggie. She got her four years ago to be a little lap dog, but Aggie doesn‟t have much interest in being a lap dog. Alicia now knows that a Westie is bred to hunt and catch mice. She is a “mouser”. This is what her little dog seems most interested in, although she has never found a mouse yet. Keep on looking, Aggie!
From 1964 to 2005, Alicia was a radiation oncologist. She trained at the City of Hope and then moved on to work at the Pomona Valley Hospital. Eventually, she returned to the City of Hope.
Now that she is retired, her family is a big part of her life. It took Alicia‟s family three generations to have any boys. Alicia has one sister and no brothers. She has two daughters and her sister has three. Finally, one of Alicia‟s daughters, Erika, has two children, a two year old little boy and a baby girl only one month old. Erika and her husband, Shawn, live in Ventura where he is a scientist dealing with DNA. Alicia spends four days of each week in Ventura helping her daughter with her two little ones, Liam and Maggie. She is having great fun, but it really keeps her busy.
Alicia enjoys classical music, and along with her mother, loves to try different kinds of foods. Her mother is 94 and still searches out new recipes from magazines and cook-books. She loves to make them for Alicia. Alicia enjoys baking cookies, pies and cakes. She has to be careful not to do this too often, because she loves to eat the goodies she bakes!
Alicia has attended most all of our meetings since becoming a member. She truly en-joys our Club and is even recruiting a neighbor who owns a C3 to join up. Her niece, Susie and her friend Patsy, recently attended the Dodger Stadium tour. They were sporting Alicia‟s „96 convertible! It was fun to have them join us.
